The
Baghdaddios
Check out some of The Baghdaddios tunes!
Welcome
to New York ..... This
Job Sucks
Check out The Baghdaddios video- Gutwrench
First of
all, Let's Rock America would like to thank you for your continued
support. Day after day after day after day, you keep tuning
in over and over and over and over again. We really do appreciate
it. Time to find a new hobby Mom!
In all seriousness
Let's
Rock America continues to grow thanks to all those wonderful
indie musicians and the fans of indie music that support them.
We also seem to keep re-inventing ourselves like Madonna. The
difference is, we do it week after week, she does it decade
after decade. We are going to run out of ideas soon. We are
saving the silver coned nipple cups for a grand finale one day.
We know our webmaster Joe owns a pair
we'll have that video
up as soon as we get a hold of the tape!
As always,
we BEG you to spread the word. If you are a serious indie musician
or just a fan of indie music, join our blogs, use our classifieds
and invite yourself to our myspace page, www.myspace/letsrockamerica
. If you think you got what it takes to be part of our site
via a spotlight, drop us a line. If you just enjoy reading about
up and coming artists or dig listening to something new OR like
to watch cool videos OR just found us by mistake OR hate us
because we're beautiful
let us know. Our editor and slave
Rich Kubicz (that's me BTW) answers ALL of the emails sent to
his inbox.
Let's get
down to business!
This week,
Let's Rock America debuts it very first PODCAST
radio show with none other than New York Rock staple The
Baghdaddios.
250 years
ago (14 in punk years), a very big hearted man with a very BIG
MOUTH had something to say. That big hearted guy was Kenn Rowell.
Kenn and his friend Neil Richter shared a passion for music
and decadence. Together and along with other friends along the
way, these passionate musicians began the punk influenced Baghdaddios.
Self described as "Pop with a mutated twist"
The Baghdaddios music can be described as an eclectic mix of
almost all genres of music
but mutated to the point where
no A&R guy in his right mind wouldn't have smoke pouring
from is ears after a single listen.
As catchy
and energetic as the music is, The Baghdaddios themselves are
an acquired taste. Remember that first sip of Cognac you had
when you were eight?
you puked your brains out, but the
next day, you were on the Cognac again! I know how it is and
that's exactly how The Baghdaddios grab you.
The Baghdaddios
are even bigger than their awesome music. This is a band that
truly lives for the music, the image, THE SCENE! Singer/ songwriter,
Kenn Rowell writes tunes about the everyday life
his everyday
life
perhaps our own everyday lives. Sometimes politically
motivated, sometimes romantically inclined, always energetic
and thought provoking. Kenn is a product of New York City and
his music conveys an open book of his thoughts about the culture
he knows. Just give a listen to the lyrics of any of the plentitude
of songs he has given us and you will, no doubt, feel that Cognac
rush kicking in!
The history
of the Baghdaddios is immense. We won't get into it here
we
would rather save that for the Podcast.
Although
The Baghdaddios lineup has been a revolving door over the years,
Kenn continues to be the driving force. Founding member and
drummer Neil Richter seems to have gone around that revolving
door numerous times but quite recently found the entrance way
once again and joins the current lineup! Along with Kenn and
Neil, the current lineup includes Mark Burnham on Lead Guitar
and Phil Mcaughk on Bass.
The band has two full length CD's under their belts. The debut
Willie Horton Hears a Who and the latest release Autopsy Turvy.
The revolving door on this band has been spinning at break neck
speed so you'll have to get the actual CD's in order to sort
the lineups out.
The band
recently invited LRA to a show right in the bowels of NYC at
a nifty little joint on 14th Street called Otto's Shrunken Head.
The club itself has an aura that seems to be fast growing as
a scene leader for lesser known bands. Try to appreciate a club
that treats every band as if they were J.LO with a rider and
yet each and every one of these bands on a lazy Sunday night
are pouring their hearts out playing as if they had a stadium
audience to 20 people. I would personally prefer seeing U2 in
my living room than at Giant's Stadium and that is exactly what
I got.
I know you
are tired of reading shit about The Baghdaddios and would like
to get to the podcast ASAP. One more parting tidbit. When we
mentioned earlier that Kenn and the boys from The Baghdaddios
have a big heart, we weren't lying!
The Baghdaddios
founded a very cool charity quite a few years ago. New Yorkers
Kenn and Neil had a dream that they made a reality by founding
a thing called the Blank Fest. Blank Fest is an annual New York
based gig that brings the talents of over a dozen bands together
in November of every year. The price of admission for the show
is
a blanket! Why? Because November is the time here in
NYC when Jack Frost starts getting mean. New York City streets
still teem with homeless people who freeze their asses off because
they ain't like you and me! What better way to be a citizen
is there, then to donate some warmth for someone who may very
well freeze to death out there without it!
Blank Fest
collects the blankets, you see a really cool show and feel good
about yourself and THEN
.THE BAGHDADDIOS THEMSELVES, ON
CHRISTMAS EVE, PERSONALLY HAND THOSE BLANKETS OUT TO PEOPLE
WHO NEED THEM.
The pod
cast is coming
be patient. First, visit www.baghdaddios.com.
Next, visit www.blankfest.com.
If you can't make the Blank Fest show, there are other ways
you can benefit the homeless through Blank Fest in NYC and also
globally. NOW
listen to THE Baghdaddios on LRA radio
.
